As startups surgiram no mercado como impulsionadoras do crescimento econômico e da geração de novos postos de trabalho, além de servirem como catalisadoras da inovação radical. Segundo dados da Organização para a Cooperação e Desenvolvimento Econômico (OCDE), essas empresas respondem por cerca de 20% dos empregos, mas criaram quase metade das novas vagas nos países associados à organização – da qual o Brasil é parceiro.
Durante a pandemia, as startups continuaram tendo papel crítico nas economias. Algumas dessas empresas reagiram muito rapidamente, oferecendo ajuda aos países nas mudanças que se fizeram necessárias em diferentes áreas – trabalho totalmente remoto, educação e serviços de saúde.
O hub Covid-19 da OCDE analisou os desafios que as startups estão enfrentando e as oportunidades que podem surgir para elas durante e após o surto da atual pandemia. É fato que a crise está reduzindo a criação de startups, desafiando a sobrevivência desse tipo de empresa e limitando seu crescimento. Isso tudo, segundo a organização internacional, tem implicações significativas para os resultados econômicos, principalmente no emprego, dada a contribuição desproporcional das startups na criação de novos trabalhos.
Ainda de acordo com a instituição, esse problema pode ser mitigado com apoio às startups. “Os formuladores de políticas devem enfrentar os desafios de curto prazo, mas também, e mais importante, promover a capacidade das startups de aproveitarem novas oportunidades de negócios, reduzindo as barreiras ao empreendedorismo, fornecendo os incentivos certos e estimulando o potencial empreendedor”, escreveram em um artigo Flavio Calvino, economista, bem como Chiara Criscuolo, chefe da divisão de produtividade e dinâmica de negócios, e o economista júnior Rudy Verlhac, todas da diretoria de ciência, tecnologia e inovação da OCDE.
